Nature Discoveries - All About Animal Scat

This week we learned about animal scat! Most of the activities we did were from the lesson plan made by Left Brain Crafts.

7:00pm - Welcome and Opening

7:10pm - Animal poop video

We watched a video from the Shedd Aquarium about different kinds of animal poop and why they look the way they do: Sea Curious: What Does Animal Poop Look Like

7:20pm - Animal poop shapes (from the lesson plan)

We used playdoh to make different types of animal poop, and talked about the diets of the animals.
Sticky notes labeled "Deer", "Bear", "Wombat", and "Dog", with playdoh on each in the shape of that animal's poop. Deer - small pellets. Bear - large bumpy sphere. Wombat - cube. Dog - tube shape.

7:30pm - More animal poop facts (from the lesson plan)

7:35pm - Animal poop word search (from the lesson plan)

The plan was to put the word search on the screen and have everyone work on it together using the annotate feature, but it didn't work for a lot of the girls so we just went straight to the campfire songs.

7:40pm - Campfire songs!

These activities didn't take very long so we sang some of our favourite campfire songs! We sang Fire's Burning, The More We Get Together, 40 Years on an Iceberg, Quartermaster's Store, The Penguin Song, and the ABC Goodbye Song.

The girls had a lot of fun during this meeting. Some of them were a bit grossed-out, but overall they all though it was pretty cool.

Girl Guide Colouring Pages

Here are some colouring pages that I made based on the new GGC clipart. There are four different designs, all in one file for easy downloading.  GGC Colouring Pages Disclaimer: The images that these are based off are owned by Girl Guides of Canada, I just traced them to turn them into colouring pages for personal/Unit use.

Promise Posters

With Brownies being renamed to Embers, I anticipate that a lot of Ember Units will be looking for new resources with the new promise, law, and branch name. I've made these promise posters, which would make a great aid for teaching the promise, law and motto. I made one for each branch, in English and French. The font size is quite large, so they can be printed as a full page, or multiple per page to be a more convenient size. About Me

Hi everyone! My name is Elizabeth, and I've been a member of Girl Guides of Canada for 13 years. I started in Brownies (now called Embers) and went all the way to Rangers, as well as volunteering as a Girl Assistant with an Ember Unit for six years. I am currently in Link, as well as volunteering as a Brand Ambassador. I created this blog to share all the resources and meeting plans I made for online meetings while we could not meet in-person due to Covid-19. I am not currently a Guider, but I do still update this blog occasionally when I think of something new. I am currently in university, and I hope to become a Guider once I've got some more free time.
