Virtual Winter Camp 2021

This past weekend we had our second virtual camp. Our first one was last spring and it went over very well with the girls and their parents, so we decided to do it again! Here's the schedule and the booklet that we sent out to the Brownies and their families:

Friday Night:

6:30 pm - Camp opening and tent tours

All the girls built blanket forts for our night of camping, so we started camp by giving each other tours.

It wasn't that cold so I slept outside

7:00 pm - Camping scavenger hunt

Our girls really like scavenger hunts so I included a camping scavenger hunt in our activities. This one was pretty basic, just a list of things we might bring on a camping trip like a flashlight, mittens, a winter hat, and a sleeping bag.

7:30 pm - Edible campfire

One of our girls specifically asked to learn how to make a campfire and this was a fun way to do this that didn't involve any actual fire. In the booklet I included a list of suggestions for the different elements of the campfire, and I used these instructions: Edible campfire instructions.

8:00 pm - Campfire singalong!

We sang some old favourites, and I taught them some new songs like the Penguin Song! If you'd like to read more about planning a virtual campfire, you can read my post about it here.

Saturday Morning:

10:30 am - Winter storytelling activity

I showed them a series of images and had them work together to create a story. We ended up with a story about two of our girls building an upside down snowman and becoming friends with a bear named Fred. I wasn't sure how this was going to go, but the girls really enjoyed it. Winter storytelling images.

11:00 am - Winter paper dolls

I knew by this point I'd be pretty tired, so I picked an easy activity. We coloured in the winter paper dolls from makingfriends.com and talked about how to dress properly for cold weather (the actual printables are a bit hard to find, but if you open the booklet you can find the links for them in the camp schedule).

Overall this camp went really well. We had some technical difficulties on Saturday morning, but the girls still had lots of fun.

Girl Guide Colouring Pages

Here are some colouring pages that I made based on the new GGC clipart. There are four different designs, all in one file for easy downloading.  GGC Colouring Pages Disclaimer: The images that these are based off are owned by Girl Guides of Canada, I just traced them to turn them into colouring pages for personal/Unit use.

Promise Posters

With Brownies being renamed to Embers, I anticipate that a lot of Ember Units will be looking for new resources with the new promise, law, and branch name. I've made these promise posters, which would make a great aid for teaching the promise, law and motto. I made one for each branch, in English and French. The font size is quite large, so they can be printed as a full page, or multiple per page to be a more convenient size. About Me

Hi everyone! My name is Elizabeth, and I've been a member of Girl Guides of Canada for 13 years. I started in Brownies (now called Embers) and went all the way to Rangers, as well as volunteering as a Girl Assistant with an Ember Unit for six years. I am currently in Link, as well as volunteering as a Brand Ambassador. I created this blog to share all the resources and meeting plans I made for online meetings while we could not meet in-person due to Covid-19. I am not currently a Guider, but I do still update this blog occasionally when I think of something new. I am currently in university, and I hope to become a Guider once I've got some more free time.
