Advocacy and Origami

This week was a bit of a catch-up week. We started with the Advocacy Adventure activity from the Girls First platform. We had planned to do it last week, but we ran out of time. This activity illustrates nicely how making a difference in your community isn't always a huge task. Sometimes it's something small like writing a letter to the principle of your school to ask what is being done about bullying, or making posters to raise awareness about the lack of sports opportunities for girls. And if it does feel like it's too big to do on your own, you can always reach out to friends, teachers, Guiders, and other community members to share the load.

Our second activity was making origami whales. We've given our second-year Brownies a chance to teach a skill, and one of them chose origami. She did a great job showing us the steps and answering questions.

We're taking a week off next week for Canada day, and then we are going to meet every other week going forward.

Girl Guide Colouring Pages

Here are some colouring pages that I made based on the new GGC clipart. There are four different designs, all in one file for easy downloading.  GGC Colouring Pages Disclaimer: The images that these are based off are owned by Girl Guides of Canada, I just traced them to turn them into colouring pages for personal/Unit use.

Promise Posters

With Brownies being renamed to Embers, I anticipate that a lot of Ember Units will be looking for new resources with the new promise, law, and branch name. I've made these promise posters, which would make a great aid for teaching the promise, law and motto. I made one for each branch, in English and French. The font size is quite large, so they can be printed as a full page, or multiple per page to be a more convenient size. About Me

Hi everyone! My name is Elizabeth, and I've been a member of Girl Guides of Canada for 13 years. I started in Brownies (now called Embers) and went all the way to Rangers, as well as volunteering as a Girl Assistant with an Ember Unit for six years. I am currently in Link, as well as volunteering as a Brand Ambassador. I created this blog to share all the resources and meeting plans I made for online meetings while we could not meet in-person due to Covid-19. I am not currently a Guider, but I do still update this blog occasionally when I think of something new. I am currently in university, and I hope to become a Guider once I've got some more free time.
